People Randomly Yanked off the street for jury duty in Greeley

A strange story from 9news.com linked to by the Drudgereport: Snow on wednesday in greeley caused many people with traditional jury summons to not show up so somebody was sent out onto the streets with a stack of subpoena's to force random pedestrians to come inside and serve. Worse, this is the third time in three months that this has happened.

This seems like a pretty unfair use of government power. While we all should participate as jurors when called, we also all have lives and jobs and other obligations and people should be given the courtesy of some advance notice instead of being drafted and forced into service under threat of being held in contempt of court. Don't punish random people on the street for the 160 out of 200 people that didn't show up. If you have to, postpone trials for the day.

Really unfair, right?

Good Grief!
Instead of grabbing innocent "victims" of the legal system from the streets, Greeley should have taken the extra effort and time to go after the 160 people that didn't show up. If anyone should be cited for contempt of court, it is they.

Greeley is undergoing some dramatical changes lately. Since it is the major supply city in Colorado for illegal drug traffic from Mexico, instead of Denver, ICE opened an office in Greeley. As a result, lots of people have left, most of them illegal aliens. That left Greeley rocking back on its heels. I wouldn't be surprised if many of the 160 "no-shows" are illegal aliens too boot!

I was in a jury pool in Adams County a couple of years ago. Among the 250 people in the room were potential jurors who had felony convictions, current warrants against them and domestic violence perps. I couldn't believe how the potential jury pool had dwindled to such a level that we can no longer find respectible people to serve on a jury with out having to snatch cons, ex-cons and persons trying to avoid any contact with the law.

The sadest part is that, now there were persons being sought by the law, curently in the court building, why didn't they get arrested on the spot?

The system is screwed up. My daughter is being railroaded as we speak. She is a victim of an irate x-boyfriend who is bent on revenge, his schiester lawyer and a judge that doens't seem to listen to both sides of the story. I am working on filing a complaint with the bar association on the lawyer, his firm and the judge! Then, I intend to sue the x-boyfriend for harassment and verbal assault. Sure hope I can find a jury of law obeiding citizens.
