Aix restaurant is a little place on 17th street in uptown. We got there a little early at 6:30 but by 7:30 the place was packed. The walls are a dark chocolate brown and there are silver ornaments hanging from the ceiling. It has an intimate atmosphere, although the tables are a little close together.
The wine list is small and lacks enough choices in the $25-40 range. One note, they have a decent loaf of bread with a nice compote butter, but you have to ask for it; I don't remember if it was free or not.
Aix has a small menu with limited choices but everything we ordered was good. The caesar salad was one of the better ones in denver with big full lettuce leafs and a very good dressing. Big pieces of fresh grated parmesan cheese were scattered on top. I ordered the Gnocchi; usually gnocchi comes with a cream sauce but this one came with a brown butter sauce. There were crispy baked sweet potato bits on top and sweet potatos and cranberries mixed in the dish.
Good food and a good atmosphere. The strike against it is the limited choices on the menu but every dish was creative and what I had was good so Aix overcomes that problem. Aix is a great place to take a date; it's unique and has great food.
One final note, Aix notes at the bottom of their menu that they lookout for the environment by purchasing ingredients locally. This also helps support the local economy and ensures they have fresh ingredients.
